Joanne Gerwe
Counselor-in-Training

I am a 2nd year Master of Psychology in Counseling student at Northwestern University. My specialty areas include career development, behavioral therapy, weight loss & wellness, trauma therapy, women’s health, relationship healing, substance use recovery, and more. I am passionate about helping individuals and families overcome challenges, burnout, negative self-talk, adverse childhood experiences, and more, to improve their lives for the better. Client goals drive the therapeutic process and modality. I am an aspirational therapist who is fully committed to making client goals a reality.

While pursuing my graduate degree, I have gained experience working with behaviorally challenged youths and their families, and have completed specialized training in CBT, Trauma Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy and more. Currently I’m interning at A Better You Counseling to become a licensed provider.

At A Better You Counseling, I specialize in treating youths, women’s health, behavioral therapy, talk therapy, trauma therapy, CBT, solutions based therapy, and more.

Outside of work, I am a self-proclaimed gym rat, a retired Ironman athlete and a former bodybuilder. Cooking with global flavors is another passion area of mine and I find creativity through fiber arts. I believe it’s important to cultivate personal hobbies and interests for individual growth and fulfillment. I’m committed to these things for myself, and help others do the same!
